This RTI Information is being asked with reference to AADHAAR card usages with Telecom Services. The RTI information is need for the below: (A) Is it mandatory for Telecom company and there vendors to ask for AADHAAR CARD for Taking new Telephone/Internet/SIM services ? (B) Is it mandatory for Telecom/Mobile companies to insist and force for giving AADHAAR CARD for KYC reason for showcasing as their right to take, otherwise denial in service. (C) What action can be taken against Telecom Companies or their 3rd party service providers, quoting that the company has made it mandatory to give Aadhar, if not then services will be barred or not given? (D) Has TRAI given any advice or circular to Telecom Mobile companies to make it mandatory to Take Aadhaar or deny the service? If yes, please quote details. If No, kindly mentioned the action that could be taken and to whom the matter should be taken too.

From the available records, it is observed that your RTI application has been suitably replied by the CPIO on 02-12-2022. The information provided by CPIO is as follows - “The Aadhaar Card is not a necessary document for issuing Sim cards. At present, SIM can be issued to a customer by any of the following KYC methods: (i) Paper based KYC process vide DoT letter No. 800-09/2010-VAS dated 09.08.2012 (ii) Digital KYC process vide DoT instructions no.800-26/2016-AS.II dated 03.04.2019 (iii) Aadhaar based e-KYC process vide DoT instructions No. 800-29/2010-VAS(Vol.I) dated 12.06.2018 The relevant circulars can be downloaded from DoT website Download The file ( bytes)
