1. Provide the total number of Internet shutdowns in India in the last 10 years.

2. Provide the yearwise total number of internet shutdowns in India in the last 10 years

3. Provide the state wise, year wise and duration wise internet shutdowns in the last 10 years.

4. For each of the shutdown, provide the duration of the shutdown and the reason.

5. Provide a copy of all orders of Internet shutdowns in the last 10 years

The information given by the CPIO in respect of the RTI Application pertaining to the RTI applicant is as follows: "(i) In order to streamline the process of internet shutdowns in the Country, the Department of Telecommunications notified “Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017” on 07.08.2017. As per these rules, the directions for temporary suspension of telecom services, including internet services in an area, can either be issued by the Union Home Secretary in case of Central Government or the State Home Secretary in case of State Government, due to public emergency or in the interest of public safety. The Gazette Notification can be downloaded from the DoT Website from the URL: Download The file ( bytes) pdf Icon (ii) State Governments are also empowered to issue orders for temporary suspensions of internet services in the State or part thereof under the provisions contained in the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017. The detail about such internet shutdowns ordered by State Governments as well as Review reports is not maintained by this CPIO. Further, your RTI application is being transferred under Section 6(3) of RTI Act, 2005 to Smt. Sulekha, Director(S) & CPIO, Deptt. of J&K Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, North Block, New Delhi for providing information, if any, directly to you/ transferring to the concerned CPIO." Hence a suitable reply was given to the applicant by the CPIO
