In 2002 Oil Industry Safety Directorate or OISD has given the opinion that mobile phones should be switched off at retail outlets or CNG and LPG refuelling stations and not permitted inside oil installations
It also pointed out that cell phone manufacturers such as Nokia and Motorola and Panasonic, multinational oil and companies such as Shell and the aviation wing of BP Amoco and Airtel had all recommended switching off mobile phones at fuel stations
Accordingly as per media report, the Government of India has banned use of mobile phones at petrol pumps since June 27 2002 The manufacturers or service providers of cellular phones also advise users to keep mobile phones in the off mode at petrol pumps.
As per RTI Act kindly provide following documents and details
1 Copy of opinion as mentioned above in 2002 or at any time, given by OISD or DOT or TRAI etc wherein it opined or advised or directed to switch off mobile phones at oil or gas stations and other oil installations
2 Basis of above mentioned opinion to switch off the mobile phones at petrol pumps or gas stations etc
3 Kindly provide details of incidents which have occurred due to use of mobile phones at petrol or gas stations in India or overseas
4 Is there any study or research conducted in this regard
5 Is use of mobile phones and radiations emitted by mobile phones hazardous and can it be a cause of any serious accidents or incidents if mobile phones are used in oil pumps OR gas pumps or other oil installations
6 Copies of guidelines or instructions or advisory or directions or internal notes or reports etc issued in this regard may kindly be provided at the earliest
7 Copies of guidelines or instructions or directions or reports etc issued in this matter by DOT or Ministry of Telecom as regards usage or hazards of using mobile phones at petrol pumps or gas stations or other oil installations
